What does it mean to condemn something?

To condemn something means to find fault with it. You do not condemn something that is perfect; you condemn something that has a flaw. In Scripture, the law is called a ministration of condemnation because it reveals fault and gives the knowledge of sin and death.

Les explains that condemning something means finding fault with it, because you don't condemn something perfect—only something with a flaw. He ties this to the ministration of condemnation in verse 9, contrasting law and grace. The law was given to Israel, yet its power extends to all so every mouth may be stopped and all the world become guilty before God. By the deeds of the law no flesh is justified, for by the law is the knowledge of sin and death. Thus the law functioned as a ministration of condemnation.

2 Corinthians 3:9

For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
