What enabled Paul to endure all the privations he lists in 2 Corinthians?
The love of Christ constrained Paul, enabling him to endure every privation he later lists in 2 Corinthians. Because Christ’s love prompted him, he was able to suffer privation after privation and keep going, rather than turn back from the truth he proclaimed.
Les explains that Paul did not come with fickle language; everything he said was prompted by the Holy Spirit. Paul was there for the love of Christ, and the love of Christ constrained him. That constraint is what enabled him to suffer all the privations he would list later in II Corinthians, going through privation after privation. Les also notes Paul was accused of not bringing the truth because he did not agree with the Judaizers in Jerusalem and was no longer working hand in glove with Peter and the eleven. He proclaimed something they knew nothing of, so he was bombarded with false accusations that should have been reserved for false teachers. Les observes that often those with the truth, not the false teachers, come under attack.
