What route did Paul intend to take after leaving Derbe and Lystra?
After leaving Derbe and Lystra, Paul intended to travel back toward northern Turkey through the region around the Black Sea, then on to Asia. Later, after coming to Mysia, he intended to enter Bithynia, which lies along the Black Sea, and then probably return to Antioch in Syria.
Les explains that Paul had been ministering in western Turkey, then Asia Minor, and from the area of Derbe and Lystra he intended to go back to northern Turkey through the region around the Black Sea and then to Asia. Scripture says they went through Phrygia and Galatia but were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach in Asia. After reaching Mysia, they intended to go into Bithynia, which lies along the Black Sea; that was evidently Paul's intended route, then probably back to Antioch in Syria. The Holy Spirit did not permit them, so they passed by Mysia and came down to Choas, where Paul expected to meet Titus. Then the Macedonian vision redirected them.
