How does Satan use the appearance of promoting Scripture to deceive millions?
Satan transforms himself into an angel of light and makes it appear that he is promoting the Scriptures; as he does, he leads millions astray. He is a master at this deception. The Lord gives the Holy Spirit's direction and a searching mind so believers can sort truth from error.
Les teaches that Satan can transform himself into an angel of light and make it appear that he is promoting the Scriptures, and by that appearance he leads millions astray; he is a master at it. Because this deception exists, the Lord has given the direction of the Holy Spirit and a mind and intelligence so that by searching the Scriptures believers can sort these things out. Les illustrates this with a caller who asked for verses showing a practice was wrong; he instead asked whether any verse instructs people to do it. When it is not in the Book, it must be wrong, because anything that is part and parcel of our practice of the Christian walk is in the Book. If it is not in the Book, you are on thin ice. It is just as important to realize what is not in Scripture as what is in it, since many think something is in the Book only because they heard it somewhere.
