How did Paul write his letter to the Corinthians?

Paul wrote his letter to the Corinthians out of much affliction and anguish of heart, with many tears, not from overemphasis but from a broken heart over what he heard from the congregation. It was as if written with a quill dipped in tears because their situation grieved him deeply.

Les explains that Paul's letter was not written lightly or with overemphasis. In verse 4 Paul says he wrote out of much affliction and anguish of heart, with many tears. Les notes Paul's heart was broken and he was in tears over what he was hearing from the congregation at Corinth. A commentary by the old Bible teacher Finley said Paul must have written this letter with a quill dipped in tears, and Les agrees that is just about true. Despite this, Paul had confidence that the carnal church at Corinth could grow and become real trophies of God's grace, even under the pressure the early Christians faced from the Jewish and pagan elements.

2 Corinthians 2:4

For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.
