Why does Les Feldick give background before teaching a Bible book?

Les explains that he has to give a little bit of background before teaching a Bible book because he thinks you get a better understanding of the Scripture if you understand the circumstances under which it was written, as well as who wrote it, and to whom it was written. In this session, after finishing 1 Corinthians, he is moving on to the next letter, 2 Corinthians, and so he gives that background before proceeding.
