Is the blessed hope the same as the Second Coming?

No. According to Titus 2, believers are to look for the blessed hope, which is the glorious appearing of the great God and Savior Jesus Christ, and this is explicitly distinguished from the Second Coming. The blessed hope centers on Christ’s glorious appearing and His deity, not simply the Second Coming event.

The context from Titus 2:11-13 says the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared, teaching believers to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world. While going through the workday week, they are to be looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing. Les explains that this is “not the Second Coming, but” the glorious appearing of the great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. He identifies the blessed hope as the glorious appearing of the great God, the God of creation, the God of this Book, our Savior Jesus Christ. The verse is also presented as proof that Jesus is truly God.
