Can we change the fact that we are like the earthy man?
No. That fact cannot be changed. The earthy man's likeness is inherent: "as is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy." Believers become heavenly connected and have citizenship in heaven, but still live and reproduce as physical earthly beings.
Les explains that the second man is the Lord from heaven, and as is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy, and we cannot change that. We are earthy in our makeup. Once we become a believer, we become heavenly connected and our citizenship is in heaven, but we are still functioning, living, producing, and reproducing as physical earthly beings. Verse 49 adds that as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Les says this is where faith comes in: we believe it because the Book says so, not because it can be laid out on a laboratory desk and picked apart. It is the eternal Word of God, and we can trust it.
As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
