Les Feldick Bible Study

Is God only concerned about our soul and spirit, not our body?

No. God is concerned with the whole person—body, soul, and spirit. For believers, the soul and spirit are already redeemed, but the body remains unredeemed and under the curse. The Holy Spirit's presence is God's down payment that He will complete the transaction and redeem body, soul, and spirit together for eternity.

Les explains that it is wrong to assume God is concerned only with the soul and spirit. He says that even for eternity we must be a complete entity, and no human being can function as a complete entity unless he is body, soul, and spirit. All three must be brought back together before we can spend eternity in the presence of Christ. For the believer, the soul and spirit have already been redeemed, but the body is still unredeemed, still in the flesh, still under the curse. The presence of the Holy Spirit in the believer's life is God's down payment that He will complete the whole transaction; He will redeem body, soul, and spirit together. Les then returns to Romans chapter 8, beginning at verse 18, to show the suffering of this present time compared with the glory to be revealed, and creation's earnest expectation for the manifestation of the children of God.
