If my soul and spirit are already redeemed, why does my body still need to be redeemed?

Scripture teaches that the redemption of the soul and spirit is already accomplished, but it serves as a down payment. God will complete the transaction by redeeming the body and giving the believer a new body. The body’s redemption awaits that future completion, when the believer receives the resurrection body.

Les explains that Ephesians 1 speaks of the believer’s soul and spirit as already redeemed, yet that redemption is itself a down payment. God will complete the transaction and also then redeem and give us a new body. Les says the best way to get a glimpse of that new body is to look at Christ in His resurrection experience—the 40 days between His coming out of the tomb and His ascension in Acts chapter 1. He stresses that resurrection is the bulwark of our faith: Christ died for us and arose victoriously over sin, death, Satan, and hell, able to impart the blessed hope of resurrection. In Luke 24:36, the ten are meeting, and Jesus Himself stood in their midst and said, “Peace be unto you.”
