What does God want for believers instead of being carnal?
God wants believers to be spiritual rather than fleshly or carnal, and to enjoy the knowledge of God. He does not want His people to remain carnal and unable to receive deeper truth, but desires them to grow beyond milk and partake of spiritual understanding.
Les explains from I Corinthians chapter 3 that the writer could not speak to the Corinthians as spiritual but as carnal, even as babes in Christ. They were fed milk and not meat because they were not able to bear it, and they could not get excited about the deep things. Les teaches that God does not want people to be fleshly and carnal; He wants them to be spiritual and to enjoy this knowledge of God. This deep truth is for every believer, even the babes in Christ, and it presses the question whether one is a shame to God through biblical ignorance or will hear, “Well done, now good and faithful servant.”
