Are we saved just to escape hellfire?

No. We are not saved just to escape hellfire. The purpose is far beyond that: to come into a tremendous relationship with Christ Himself, as members of His Body, His complement and fullness, sharing His inheritance by faith. This glorious position is taken by faith, not earned by human effort.

Les explains that the average believer often thinks he is saved only to escape hellfire, but that is far too limited. He says it is beyond comprehension: believers are not saved merely to avoid hellfire but to come into a tremendous relationship with Christ Himself. Because of their position in Christ, they are on an even keel with Him; He is their inheritance and they are His inheritance. The Body of Christ is the complement, the fullness of Christ, the same word used of Eve as Adam's helpmeet. This is beyond human understanding and is received by faith. Salvation's way is to believe, putting faith and trust in what God has said, not in repenting, being baptized, joining a church, or walking an aisle; those things have their place but are not the way of salvation. It rests on the working of His mighty power toward those who believe.
