Les Feldick Bible Study

What does it mean that Christ sits at the Father's right hand until his enemies are made his footstool?

Christ's sitting at the Father's right hand denotes His completed work and present exaltation, but it also marks a waiting period. Though Satan was defeated potentially at the cross, he remains the god of this world, not yet under Christ's feet. The Father will make enemies His footstool.

Les teaches that when God revealed to Satan that the seed of the woman would deal with and crush Satan's powers, that defeat was accomplished at the cross only so far as the potential. Even after Christ was raised victoriously over a defeated Satan, Satan is still the god of this world and is still destroying lives. Therefore Satan is not yet under Christ's feet. Christ sits at the Father's right hand until the Father makes His enemies His footstool. Hebrews shows the same point: Christ has accomplished the work of the cross and has risen, so His session at the right hand is a waiting period until the enemies are fully subjected.

Psalms 110:1

The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

1 Corinthians 15:25

For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

Hebrews 1:13

But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
