What do the metals in the image of Daniel 2 represent?

The metals in Daniel 2's image represent the successive Gentile empires descending through history. The head of gold, chest of silver, belly of brass, legs of iron, and feet of iron and clay picture those empires. The iron and clay specifically point to the revived Roman Empire, which the Lord will crush at His return.

Les explains that Daniel chapter 2 records the recovery of Nebuchadnezzar's dream concerning all the great empires of the world. They are pictured in that great image: the head of gold, chest of silver, belly of brass, legs of iron, and feet of iron and clay. These are all pictures of the Gentile empires coming down through history. When the Lord returns at the end of the tribulation, He will strike that image on the empire then functioning—the iron and clay of the Toas, or the revived Roman Empire—and crush everything that smacks of Gentile rule and empire.
