Why was the book of Daniel a closed book to scholars and theologians through history?

The book of Daniel was sealed even to the time of the end, and it contains so much end-time scenario material that scholars and theologians through history could not comprehend it. It remained a closed book, but it would be opened at the time of the end.

Les teaches that in verse 4 the Lord comes down and deals with Daniel personally, telling him to shut up the words and seal the book until the time of the end. Because Daniel is a book of prophecy containing so much end-time scenario material, it was almost gobbledygook to most scholars and theologians down through history; they could not comprehend it, no way. Thus it was a closed book. Les explains that Daniel was told it would be opened up at the time of the end, and we are certainly witnessing that today. The next verse adds that many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall be increased, which Les takes to mean not just secular knowledge and the explosion of technology, though that is certainly pertinent to the end time.

Daniel 12:4

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
