To whom did God speak in Old Testament times?

In Old Testament times, God spoke to the fathers—the forefathers of Israel—by the prophets. Hebrews 1:1 states that God, at sundry times and in diverse manners, spoke in times past unto the fathers by the prophets. This was the pattern before the last days, when He spoke by His Son.

Les teaches that Hebrews 1:1 identifies the audience of Old Testament revelation: God spoke 'in times past unto the fathers,' meaning the forefathers of Israel, 'by the prophets.' This was the pattern before the last days. The same triune God—Father, Son, and Spirit—who spoke in diverse manners through the prophets has now, in these last days (from Christ's first advent onward), spoken to us by His Son. Les distinguishes the 'last days' from the 'latter days,' the latter being the Tribulation and Second Coming. He also notes that while the Holy Spirit inspired Scripture, its words are ultimately the words of God the Son, as Paul testified, 'I heard Him speaking to me,' referring to Jesus.
