What happened when Jacob came to Beersheba in Genesis 46:1?

At Beersheba, Jacob offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. God spoke to Israel, calling him by name, and Jacob answered, "Here am I." This occurred as famine pressed Jacob's family, and God then gave a command that was almost the opposite of earlier instructions not to leave the land.

Les explains that Genesis 46:1 finds Jacob in the Negev, a desert region, during a famine that had lasted almost seven years, and he was about to starve. Jacob came to Beersheba, about 70-80 miles south of Jerusalem, and there he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. Then God spoke unto Israel, or Jacob, saying, "Jacob," and Jacob replied, "Here am I." Les points out that the command God then gave was almost the total opposite of what Jacob had been told up until then, since he had been told not to leave the land.
