What two categories does Les say everything in Scripture connects to?
Everything in Scripture connects to two categories: that which is of the earth, called earthy, and that which is of heaven, called heavenly. These two categories correspond to Israel as the earthy and the Church as the heavenly. This division runs throughout the whole of Scripture.
Les explains that just as Genesis 1:1 speaks of God creating heaven and earth, everything in Scripture is connected to those two entities. It is either of the earth and earthy or of heaven and heavenly. As you come up through Genesis, Israel becomes the earthy, and the Church becomes the heavenly. He also contrasts the first man, who is of the earth and earthy, with the second man, the Lord from heaven, who is not a created being but the Creator Himself.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
