How is everything in Scripture connected to heaven and earth?
Everything in Scripture is connected to heaven and earth by falling into one of two categories: it is either earthy, belonging to the earth, or heavenly, belonging to heaven. Scripture’s framework traces this division through Israel as earthy and the Church as heavenly.
Les teaches that when he taught Genesis 1.1, the first point he made was that in the beginning God created heaven and earth. He then says everything in Scripture is going to be connected to those two entities: it is either of the earth and earthy, or of heaven and heavenly. As the Genesis record unfolds, Israel becomes the earthy, and the Church becomes the heavenly. Verse 48 reinforces the same contrast: as is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so are they also that are heavenly.
