How did the Jews gather the firstfruits sheaf from the field?
The Jews were to go into the green barley field and pluck the early ripened stems with their heads, gathering enough of them to make a sheaf. They then brought that sheaf to the priest as a wave offering, presenting the firstfruits of the harvest.
Les teaches that barley was the first grain harvested in the spring. While the field was still green and headed out, scattered yellow heads of grain would appear, having ripened before the mass of other stems around them. The Jews were to go into that green field and pluck those early ripened stems with the heads, enough so that they would have a sheaf. They then took it to the priest, and it was a wave offering. This was the firstfruits brought to the priest.
