What were the Jews supposed to do for the firstfruits offering?
The Jews were to enter the green barley field, pluck the early ripened stems with their heads, gather enough to form a sheaf, and bring it to the priest as a wave offering, thereby presenting the firstfruits of the harvest.
Les explains that barley was the first grain harvested in the spring. In a field still green and headed out, scattered yellow heads ripen early before the rest. The Jews were instructed to go into that green field and pluck those early ripened stems with their heads, enough to make a sheaf, and take it to the priest as a wave offering. Scripture says, "When you are come into the land, and ye shall reap the harvest, you shall bring the firstfruits to the priest."
