What has been the tactic of persecutors of Christians down through the ages?

Down through the ages, the tactic of persecutors has been to force believers to make a choice: blaspheme Jesus Christ, renege on Him, recant their faith in Him, or be put to death. This ploy pressures them to deny Christ under threat of execution, seeking to make them abandon their faith.

Les explains that this has been the ploy of persecutors down through the ages: forcing people to make a choice. Specifically, they compel believers to blaspheme Jesus Christ, renege on Him, recant their faith in Him, or be put to death. Saul of Tarsus exemplified this when he voted against believers, choosing death over prison, and punished them often in every synagogue, compelling them to blaspheme. He put his fellow Jews in the position to blaspheme Jesus' name, hate Him as he did, or be put to death. This pattern of forcing a choice between recanting faith and execution is the tactic.

Acts 26:11

And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.
