Why does Les Feldick pray for the Lord to open hearts before he teaches?
He prays for the Lord to open hearts because he knows there is nothing he can do if the Holy Spirit does not do His work. Teaching alone cannot open understanding; the Spirit must work. So he depends prayerfully on God to prepare hearers before he teaches.
Les explains that as he watches the clock during the early-morning broadcast, he prayerfully says, “Now Lord, just open hearts.” His stated reason is that there is nothing he can do if the Holy Spirit doesn’t do His work. He recognizes that the effectiveness of the teaching depends on the Spirit opening hearts, not on his own ability. Therefore he asks the Lord to do that work.
