What is the word of wisdom and word of knowledge in 1 Corinthians 12:8?

In 1 Corinthians 12:8, the word of wisdom and word of knowledge are spiritual abilities given by the same Holy Spirit to different believers in the congregation. They are gifts the Church needed, and God provides men with these particular abilities. Believers should not demand them but leave the distribution to the Holy Spirit.

Les teaches that the word of wisdom and word of knowledge are not gifts believers can claim or demand for themselves. They are distributed by the Holy Spirit: to one believer is given the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, yet both come from the same Holy Spirit. These were things the Church needed, and God provided men with these particular abilities. Les emphasizes that rather than asking for a specific gift, believers should say, 'Lord, here I am, I'm available, use me,' and let Him direct. He explains that God guides through open and closed doors and through the Word impressed by prayer, not by demanding a gift.
