Why could the Jews call Jesus accursed with a clear conscience?

Deuteronomy 21 states that a man hanged on a tree is accursed of God. Since Jesus had been hanged on a tree, the cross, the Jews, knowing this verse and under Israel's Law, could accuse Him as accursed with a clear conscience.

Les teaches that Judas admitted he had betrayed innocent blood, cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, departed, and hanged himself. Then Les comes back to Deuteronomy 21 to explain why Jews with a straight face and a straight conscience could accuse Jesus: He had been hanged on a tree, the cross. Deuteronomy 21 says if a man commits a sin worthy of death, is put to death, and is hanged on a tree, his body must not remain all night but must be buried that day, for he who is hanged is accursed of God. Les asks why the Jews were in such a hurry to get Jesus off the cross—they knew this verse. Under Israel's Law, the hanged one was accursed of God, so the land would not be defiled.
