Who were Peter and the apostles confronting in Acts 5, and with what fact?
In Acts 5, Peter and the apostles were confronting the Jewish people with the fact that the One crucified was their Messiah. They answered that they ought to obey God rather than men, and proclaimed that the God of their fathers raised up Jesus, whom they slew and hanged on a tree.
Les explains that in Acts chapter 5 Peter is still holding forth with the eleven, and they are still dealing primarily with the Jewish people. Their confrontation centers on the fact that the One who was crucified was their Messiah. Les has Peter and the other apostles answer, "We ought to obey God rather than men," and then quote verse 30: "The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you slew, and hanged on a tree."
