Why is the man the head of the woman according to the Bible?

God ordained the man as head of the woman because she was created next, establishing His order for the home and family. This creation order originated with God, not as a modern phenomenon, and it holds today because He never rescinded it. The man is not a slave master; the woman is a helpmate and complement.

Les explains that the order of the sexes is not some modern phenomenon; it originated at creation. God created Adam with Eve within him, then later took that part of Eve out of Adam and created the woman, so Adam now had his complement and was no longer alone. Paul rests on this creation order. God created the man to be the head of the woman because she was created next, and that was God's ordained way of setting up the home and family. It holds to this day because God never rescinded His format for the home—the husband as head of the wife, then the children. Les emphasizes this does not make the man a slave master; his wife is not a gopher for him but a helpmate and complement. He points to I Corinthians 11:12: the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman.
