Whose sins were laid on Christ on the cross and what did God do with them?
All the sin of every person from Adam to the last person who will ever live was laid on Christ at the cross. God judged that sin in Him and poured out His wrath upon Him, so the sin debt is atoned for, paid, and finalized once and for all.
Les explains that Christ's crucifixion was not unique merely as a crucifixion, since there were thousands of those. What made it unique is that He was the Creator God Himself, who took on human flesh to go to the cross. On that cross, God poured out all His wrath for sin. All the sin from Adam until the last person who will ever live was laid on Christ, and God judged it. He poured out His wrath on Him, meaning that even the vilest lost and wicked people have their sins already atoned for and paid for. The only reason they would go to eternal doom if they do not come into salvation is that they rejected it. Les maintains there is only one sin that will put a person out into eternal doom: rejecting the Gospel. The sin debt has been paid and finalized once and for all. This is why Paul burned until his dying day to get the Gospel of salvation out to lost people, and if any of us would get a part of that, we would make a difference.
