What happened to sacrificial meat the priests could not eat?

If the sacrificial meat was more than the priests could consume, they had the authority to designate the excess to the individual who had brought the sacrifice. The priests ate first of the leftover meat, but any remaining portion could be given back to the offerer.

Les explains that when an Israelite brought a sacrificial animal to the priests, the priests ate first of the leftover meat. But if there was more than the priests could handle, it was within their power to designate the excess to the individual, perhaps the person who brought the sacrifice in the first place. He notes that pagans copied this practice, taking sacrificial meat to the marketplace or giving it to the one who brought the sacrifice, because Israel did the same thing.
