Les Feldick Bible Study

What kinds of things can become idols in a Christian's life?

In a Christian's life, idols can be anything that takes first place ahead of the Lord, including automobiles, cattle, a garden, children, grandchildren, a business, or a job. The admonition is to flee idolatry and let everything put the Lord first and foremost.

Les explains that Paul, in I Corinthians 10:14, says, "Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry." He warns believers not to assume idols are irrelevant today, because most idols in America may sit in the garage—the automobile can become an idol. He also says cattle, a garden, kids, grandkids, a business, or a job can become an idol. Paul's admonition is to look out and not let something become your idol, but to put the Lord first and foremost. Earlier, Les notes that believers are people of choice; when tempted, they can look for the way of escape God has provided.

1 Corinthians 10:14
