How high was the pinnacle of the temple, and could people see someone standing on it?

The temple pinnacle was not as high as some modern skyscrapers. Because it was lower, it was no problem for the temple crowds down below to see someone standing on it; that position was easily within eyesight. The crowds were gathered below, so someone on the pinnacle could be seen.

In the temptation narrative, Satan takes Jesus up into the Holy City and sets Him on the pinnacle of the temple, with all the temple crowds down below. Les explains that the temple pinnacle was not as high as some modern skyscrapers, so it was no problem seeing someone up there; it was easily within eyesight. Satan urges Jesus, if He is the Son of God, to cast Himself down, quoting that angels would bear Him up. Les interprets this as the lust of the eye and a showmanship event, imagining Satan like a Madison Avenue advertiser wanting a great display before the crowd on the temple pavement. Jesus refuses, saying it is written, thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
