What is the lesson for us from Jesus' answer about not living by bread alone?
The lesson is that physical appetites, though real, must be tempered by spiritual priorities, which are far more important. Jesus answered temptation with God's word, showing that people must keep their priorities straight rather than letting hunger or earthly concerns become upside down.
Les explains that Jesus had fasted forty days in the wilderness, so Satan tempted Him to satisfy His hunger by commanding stones to be made bread. Jesus answered, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." The lesson is that in spite of our physical appetites, whatever they are, we have to temper them with the spiritual things that are far more important. Les stresses that we have to keep our priorities straight, because many people mean well but get their priorities upside down.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
