Les Feldick Bible Study

Why are we secure from judgment if it's not because of anything we do?

Believers are secure from judgment because the atoning blood of Christ seals them, just as pitch sealed Noah's ark from the flood waters. It is not earned or deserved; it rests on faith in Christ's blood and resurrection, which shields them so judgment cannot touch them.

Les explains that God instructed Noah to seal the ark with pitch, and the same Hebrew word for pitch is also the word for atonement. The pitch between the boards had a sealing, atoning effect: just as the blood seals out judgment so it can never touch us, the pitch sealed out the waters of the flood. He teaches that this pattern runs all the way through Scripture—we are secure not because of anything we do or deserve, but simply because we have placed our faith in the blood of Christ, and also in His resurrection.
