What does it mean that Christ was sent to be a propitiation through faith in His blood?

God sent Christ Jesus to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, meaning His blood is the only purchase price for mankind's redemption, applied by faith. As Israel was protected by Passover blood, the believer who trusts Christ's blood is secure; nothing can separate them from God's love.

Les explains that because God lost mankind when Adam fell, He had to redeem us, and He redeems with blood. Blood is the only thing God can use to purchase mankind's redemption. In verse 25, the one God sent forth is Christ Jesus, sent to be a propitiation through faith in His blood. Les notes this is not heard much anymore, yet there is only one way to experience the redemption of verse 24: putting your faith in the blood of Christ. He connects this to the Passover night in Egypt. Just as the Jewish family in Egypt was safe and the death angel could not touch the firstborn because of the blood on the door, so also for you and me who have had the blood of Christ applied, nothing can touch us. Les then cites Romans 8:37-39: in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us, and neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Why? We are under the blood, and no power on earth or in heaven can take us from under that blood protection. As the Israelites were safe in Egypt, we are safe today. That is beautiful security.

Romans 3:25

Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
