Les Feldick Bible Study

What does Acts 7:36 refer to according to Les?

Acts 7:36 refers to the forefathers of Israel who came out of Egypt under Moses. In that sermon, Stephen traces Jewish history from Abraham and points to the Exodus generation, identifying them as those who departed Egypt under Moses’ leadership.

Les explains that in 1 Corinthians 10 Paul is going back to the book of Exodus, and to make the connection clear he directs us back to Acts chapter 7. There Stephen is preaching a tremendous sermon to his Jewish religious leaders. Stephen has gone all the way back to Abraham and brought the Jewish history before them, and beginning at about Acts 7:36 he is referring to their forefathers who came out of Egypt under Moses. This ties with the earlier reference to the fathers being under the cloud and passing through the Red Sea.

Acts 7:36

He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.
