Who were the people that crucified Jesus in relation to Him?
Those who nailed Jesus to the cross and made public spectacle of Him were created beings. In relation to Him, they were creatures crucifying their own Creator. The same God who created all things in Genesis 1:1 was the One they put to death, though He is also the God who rose and offers eternal life.
Les teaches that the people who nailed Christ to the cross and set Him up in public spectacle were the created beings of the Creator they were crucifying. He recalls teaching a class in Iowa years ago and making this point, which shook them up because they had never had that kind of concept of who Jesus was. But it is true: it was the created beings crucifying their Creator, and Les says never lose sight of that. In Ephesians chapter 3, Paul writes about making all see the fellowship of the mystery that was hid in God from the beginning, the same God of Genesis 1:1 who created all things and who was designated the Creator, Jesus Christ. When Les thinks of his own salvation, he thanks God that the sovereign, total God of the universe died the death he should have died, rose from the dead, and extended eternal life, and you cannot separate that from Him.
