What verse shows that 1 Corinthians was written in response to questions from the Corinthians?
1 Corinthians 7:1 shows it. There Paul writes, “concerning the things whereof ye wrote to me,” making obvious that the letter addresses the congregation’s questions and problems. This verse explicitly indicates the Corinthians had written to Paul with inquiries, and he responds to them.
Les teaches that 1 Corinthians is a letter dealing with the problems in the local church that the Corinthians had evidently written to Paul about and asked questions concerning. For reference, he points back to 1 Corinthians chapter 7, because there it becomes obvious that Paul is writing this letter in response to their inquiry. In 1 Corinthians 7:1, Paul says, “concerning the things whereof ye wrote to me.” Les explains that all the things Paul covers in this letter were in response to the congregation’s questions, and those questions rested on problems. He also emphasizes that the Corinthian church was the most carnal and least spiritual of all the churches Paul had anything to do with, and contrasts this letter with Ephesians, Philippians, or Colossians.
Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
