How did Paul respond to the Corinthians' questions?
Paul responded to the Corinthians' questions by answering them one by one, addressing matters such as marriage. Their letter contained a whole batch of questions from believers recently out of paganism, who lacked New Testament teaching. He dealt with the nitty-gritty of the marriage relationship, as prompted by their written inquiries.
Les explains that Paul was dealing with the nitty-gritty of the marriage relationship. The reason was that the Corinthians had written a letter full of questions. These believers were recently out of paganism, had no Sunday school or catechism as children, and were ignorant. They did not have the Bible, only some of the Old Testament, and nothing of the New Testament, so they wrote a whole bunch of questions to the apostle Paul. He answers them one by one. For example, one question was whether it is right for men and women to marry. Les also notes that when reading Scripture, you first determine who wrote it, to whom it was written, and what the circumstances were.
