Les Feldick Bible Study

What was the purpose of pagan religion according to the Bible?

Pagan religion served to keep people steeped in superstition and terrified of their gods and the demons of the air, so they would not dare make a wrong move for fear that the powers that be would come down on them.

Les explains that the whole idea of pagan religion was to keep people steeped in superstition. They were scared to death of the power of their gods and knew all too well the powers of the demons in the air around them. This fear kept them from making a wrong move, lest the powers come down on them. It even led them to take meat to pagan priests for a blessing to keep demons off so they could eat safely. Les notes that demonism is real and was present at Christ's and Paul's time, and remains rampant in some areas today.
