Les Feldick Bible Study

Do Christians today have to face the problem of meat offered to idols?

No. According to the teaching, believers today do not have to face the specific first-century problem of meat offered to idols in pagan temples or marketplaces. However, the passage remains appropriate to study because other comparable issues exist in modern society.

Les explains that in 1 Corinthians chapter 8, the Corinthian church was dealing with a problem about meat in the marketplace or at the table of someone inviting them to dinner. They did not know how to cope with whether they could eat it if it had been offered in a pagan temple. Les grants that we do not have to face this particular thing today, but he says it is still appropriate to study it because we have other things that are probably just as important to our society and are analogous to this.
