Who delivers us from the power of darkness in Colossians 1:13?

Colossians 1:13 teaches that it is the Father who has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. The grammar in the passage modifies 'Father,' so the deliverance is attributed to the Father, not the Son, in that verse.

Les explains that in Colossians 1:12-13, Paul is praying and giving thanks unto the Father. The word 'who' modifies 'Father,' so it is the Father who hath delivered us from the power of darkness and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. Then the modification changes: the 'in whom' in verse 14 now refers to the Son, in whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins. So the Father is the one who delivers and translates, while redemption comes through the Son's blood.
