Why will sin not have dominion over a believer according to Romans 6:14?

Romans 6:14 teaches that sin, or the old Adamic nature, shall not have dominion over the believer because the believer is not under the law but under grace. Since the law no longer has effect on him, sin cannot exercise that dominion.

Les explains that Romans 6:14 gives this truth most clearly: sin, or your old Adamic nature, shall not have dominion over you, because you are not under the law but under grace. He then reasons that if you are not under the law, it does not have any effect on you. That connects with the statement that all things are lawful because one is not under the law. In Romans 7:5-6, Les points out that when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins were by the law, and the law was revealing those things, but the believer is no longer held by it.

Romans 6:14
