Les Feldick Bible Study

Who are we supposed to bear burdens for in the church?

Within the church, believers are to bear one another's burdens, especially for fellow Christians who are struggling—including those caught in sin and those striving to live upright lives. They help them overcome weaknesses and encourage them that they need not remain Christian failures but can overcome sin through good Christian fellowship.

Les explains that when a believer is overtaken in a fault, the church should restore such a person in a spirit of meekness, not pride, remembering that we also could be tempted and fall into the same trap. Then verse 2 calls believers to bear one another's burdens. This includes even those who are having a time of living a good, upright Christian life—bear their burden, help them overcome their weaknesses, and encourage them that there is no need to be a Christian failure or to constantly live in sin. They can overcome it. This is the whole idea of good Christian fellowship. Later, Paul says that after dealing with a wicked person and trying to get them to recognize and confess their sin, if they refuse, the church should put them away until they come to their senses.

Galatians 6:2

Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
