What happened to Israel despite all the advantages God gave them in the Old Testament?

Despite having much going for them in the Old Testament, Israel failed miserably over and over. They did not properly use the advantages God gave them, repeatedly falling short. Their failure serves as a parallel to the Corinthians, who likewise had strong teaching and preaching but were doing the same thing.

Les explains that Israel had a great deal going for them in the Old Testament, yet they failed miserably over and over. He asks what they did with all that God had given them, and the answer is repeated failure. Les then draws a direct parallel: the Corinthians are doing the same thing. Even though they had Paul as their spiritual father, Timothy coming to remind them of Paul's ways in Christ, and the strong teaching and preaching of the greatest apostle, they still had problems. Israel's history illustrates that advantages alone do not prevent failure.
