Who moved upon the face of the deep in Genesis 1?
The Holy Spirit moved upon the face of the deep in Genesis 1. Scripture shows the Spirit of God present at creation, hovering over the waters after the earth became submerged. He has always been God's omnipresent presence on the planet, long before He began indwelling believers in the present age of grace.
Les explains that the Holy Spirit has always been the omnipresent of God on the planet. Going back to Genesis chapter 1, after the deluge of verse 2 when everything is under water, he asks what moved upon the face of the deep and answers: the Spirit. All through the Old Testament the Holy Spirit was evident, otherwise nobody could ever have a knowledge of God. But He did not indwell Old Testament believers like He does today. At the rapture, His role as the indwelling person of the Godhead will end, but He will remain on the earth as the omnipresent Spirit of God, else no one could be saved during the tribulation. Every believer now in this age of grace is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
