Why will the Holy Spirit remain on the earth during the tribulation after His indwelling role ends?
The Holy Spirit remains on earth because ending His indwelling role does not remove His omnipresence. He has always been God’s omnipresent Spirit on the planet, and in the tribulation He must still be present so people can be saved, since tribulation believers will be saved.
Les explains that when believers are taken out at the rapture, the Holy Spirit finishing His role as the indwelling person of the Godhead does not mean He is gone from the earth. The Holy Spirit has always been the omnipresent member of God on the planet, going all the way back to Genesis chapter 1, when everything was under water and the Spirit moved upon the face of the deep. He was evident throughout the Old Testament, though He did not indwell Old Testament believers as He does today. Likewise in the tribulation, His indwelling role will end, but He will remain on the earth as the omnipresent Spirit of God; otherwise no one could be saved during the tribulation, and we know they will be. Every believer now in this age of grace is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
