What did Apollos probably look like?
Apollos probably appeared as a handsome, well-dressed gentleman with a magnetic presence and the outward bearing of someone who could hold a crowd. He was an eloquent man from Alexandria, and his appearance accompanied a gift of oratory that could spellbind people.
Les explains that Apollos came to Ephesus first, not immediately to the Corinthian church. He was a certain Jew named Apollos, born in Alexandria in Egypt, where there was a seminary of sorts and where the Septuagint originated. Les teaches Apollos came out of that same area of intellectual Hebrews and was an eloquent man. From this, Les envisions he was probably a handsome gentleman, likely well dressed, with the outward appearances of somebody magnetic who could hold a crowd. On top of everything else, he had the gift of oratory and could literally spellbind people with his speech.
