Les Feldick Bible Study

Who are the 'wandering stars' reserved for blackness of darkness forever?

The 'wandering stars' are false teachers, described as clouds without water, trees whose fruit withers, twice dead, plucked up by the roots, raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame. To them is reserved the blackness of darkness forever, and Paul refers to them.

Les teaches that these false teachers are like a cloud without water, promising rain but never satisfying the inner longing and peace. They are like trees whose fruit withers, apparently before it is ready to eat, and like twice-dead trees plucked up by the roots. They are also raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame, leaving nothing pretty behind. He then connects them to the wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever, saying that is sufficient and that this is exactly what Paul is referring to.
