What do believers know about eternity and the city of gold?
Believers know that eternity holds good things awaiting them, including a great city of gold where they will one day live and a glorious reign of Christ on this earth in which they will take part. These things are revealed by God's Holy Spirit, while unbelievers have no idea what they are missing.
Les explains that these things have not been revealed to the heart of man generally, but to the believer. Believers do have a concept of what eternity holds in store. They know there is a great city of gold in which they are one day going to live, and they know there is a glorious reign of Christ on this earth in which they will take part. They also know there are all these good things awaiting them. The unbelieving world, however, has no idea; they do not know what they are missing and certainly do not want to know where they are going. God says He has revealed these things to believers by His Spirit, the Holy Spirit, who communicates these things from the Word of God. Les is concerned that many are not getting in-depth preaching or teaching from the Word, but Paul admonishes believers to let the Holy Spirit take them into the deep things of God's Word.
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
