Why didn't Paul hold healing meetings or teach philosophy in Corinth?
Paul did not hold healing meetings or teach philosophy in Corinth because that was not his method. Instead of drawing crowds by healings or classical philosophy, he pointed to their sin, declared Christ died for them, said He loves them, and called them to believe, resulting in an assembly of believers.
Les explains that Corinth was all hung up on philosophy, and if Paul had come quoting Plato and the other ancient Greek classical writers, he would have had a crowd pushing around him. But he didn't. Les recalls a man who said that if you could just heal people, you'd have thousands coming to your meetings. Les agrees, but that's not what Paul did. Paul didn't come announcing a great healing meeting, nor did he come saying they were going to philosophize or deal in the classics. Instead, he pointed the finger and said, "You're sinners. Christ died for you. He loves you. Believe it." The result was an assembly of believers—carnal, with a long way to go, but Paul calls them my brethren. Les also notes Paul was with them in weakness and fear, living in constant fear of how he would be received.
